The Noisy World – Can You Hear Yourself?

Anymore we find ourselves surrounded by a noisy world that seeks to keep us hooked into the dopamine distraction machine, also known social media (really any and all forms of media as consumed).

We are left searching for answers outside of ourselves once again and this deserves a reminder as so simply put, the kingdom of heaven is within you, not out there. We tend to get caught up in everyone else’s stories, ideas, and belief systems which are independent from our own sacred experience and as a natural consequence, we lose ourselves.

One may ask,

“In this fast-paced information age we live in, how can I feel this lost?” “In a world filled to the brim with online social connections where everyone and everything is available at the push of a button, why do I feel so disconnected?”

Everyone is a click away and autonomy seems to be slowly disappearing from society. I find it fascinating how everyone seems to have the answers but me and that’s truly concerning. A craving for depth and meaning can only be natures way of tapping us on the shoulder to point us in a different direction. From the outward to the inward.

As technology grows, so to does the need to discern our use of it as a humanity. It’s just like Prince warned back in part of his Yahoo Internet Life Awards in 1999..,

“It’s cool to use the computer, but don’t let the computer use you.”

pRINCE

What did he mean by that? I feel he was telling us to use the computer responsibly with intention and for productive means to add value. Allowing the computer to serve you and not the other way around.

My take on his message was an invitation to reflect on how balanced we are living in both the natural and artificial realms we are moving so speedily into.

Our attention is our greatest currency in life and what we give our attention to becomes our reality. So what are we giving our attention to?

Are we giving our dopamine, motivation, and power away to a system that seeks to steal our life force by creating chemical imbalances in our brain, shrinking our attention span eventually making the little things in life seem so unrewarding? Or, are we using it to build new systems in service to all sentient life backed with fulfillment and gratification within us?

We ultimately need to understand that it’s the consciousness behind the screens that can ultimately influences the path of the user if the user remains unaware.

Give yourself permission to unplug. Get out into nature and experience yourself again! That’s where YOU reside.
